Every new beginning

For my final post of the year, I am recycling (with the most minor of edits) a message that I sent to my team this week. I had a bit of positive feedback and so I felt that it was worth sharing with you as well.
‘Every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end.’
As I sat to write this message, the line ‘every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end’ started up in my mind. I thought that it was some clever word play from a late 90’s band – but no, the Stereophonics had re-purposed the line from the Stoic philosopher ‘Seneca’.
As the year ends, I think that it is a great time to look back on the wins.
The people I talk to in all areas – business, real estate, trades, laborers, students, and office workers…and of course at this time of year, retail – they are all ready for a break, we have all had quite a year.
And so my thought for today is to find the positives.
You know our ancient survival brain is primed to look for the negatives – it is how we have survived and thrived as a species – to remember negative experiences in the aim of avoiding them at all costs.
BUT the flip side of this very effective survival mechanism is that we dwell on the negative.
So….. Let me play on words.
As this end that began a year ago concludes, on the cusp of a new beginning, take a look back and find those positives. The happy moments, the successful moments, the strong moments, and the loved and loving moments. Hold on to them.
Look at where you were at this time 12 months ago, look how you have grown in yourself. Because it was a tough year for many, but you are here still. Anyone who survives tough times must be strong.
As I have moved into a position where I am in contact with more and more people, and by default more and more lives, I am just amazed at how, despite adversity, struggle, and change, you have continued to get up, to show up, and face what is being thrown at you head on, and succeed in meeting targets and goals and dreams. It is truly remarkable.
So, I wish you a ‘positive’ end to the year. Next year will be here soon enough, please take a break. Use this time for a respite while things wind down for a bit. And if you are working – do it on your terms.
Have a safe and happy festive holiday season.
Take care out there, I look forward to connecting with you in 2026.
