I would do anything for… a laugh

One thing that goes out the window when times are uncertain, is having fun.

I was recently on a call with our marketing team and we talked about our ‘80’s ad series which I am sharing here again today, in case you missed them.

These silly ads were seeded when I grabbed my guitar and started singing Meat Loaf ‘I would do anything for love’ in the middle of a meeting.

We were thinking about what we would do for a deal and I got stuck on this song. ‘I would do anything for a deal, but I wont do that’ – I was, as per, goofing off a bit.

This silly bit of fun turned into a really enjoyable project for our marketing team, that incredibly, actually worked when put in front of the market. We got leads, we got phone calls, we got brochure downloads

My message today.

Don’t lose your spark. Don’t let it get all too serious (Don’t be so cereal 🥣).

Have some fun.

Allow yourself some time to have a laugh and in that, freedom experiment and trial.

When work is more fun, well… It is not only more fun, it is arguably more productive.

I found this Linkedin article that quotes a study stating that 79% of employees believe a fun workplace motivates them to do their best work.

As the big cheese of my organisation (and as you are the head honcho of your own career and business), I relish the chance to make a bit of fun, tell a silly tale, or share something amusing (often at my own expense), all to infuse a spirit of fun in the extremely important and serious work that we do. I think this can help others to have fun, feel freer, and lead to better work.

In times of uncertainty some lightness and humour can hold the dark forces at bay!

So try the crazy marketing line, play the occasional prank, be a bit goofy, share that hilarious anecdote. Spread a little joy and it might just create a few more deals along the way as well.
