Nothing Makes Sense
When you accept that sometimes things just don’t sense it is a liberating experience.
Here are some things I know I can do – and I know you can do too:
- Communicate
- Problem Solve
- Sell
- Build
- Improve
But I sometimes feel like I work in a space where ‘nothing makes sense’.
Because sometimes it just doesn’t.
Here is why:
- We work in Real Estate and we deal with People
- We should always be doing all we can to understand both, but sometimes they just fail to make sense.
I have been watching and ‘following’ a real estate guy since the early days of Independent Agent. We have spoken and exchanged a few ideas.
He had shifted from a big brand a number of years back, but despite my efforts he didn’t come to us – but he went off somewhere similar where he has been able to build his brand, keep more commission, and generally head in a disruptive direction, doing the kinds of things that we like to see real estate people doing.
He expanded. He set up another office. He was on a roll.
Then, this week he went over to a big brand. I am sure that it will be Altogether Better for him.
When I saw this I just shook my head. And I laughed. And let go.
We all get this when we lose listings or our buyer just won’t come to the party and someone else gets the deal.
Sometimes it pays to remember that you are doing what you can, and move on, leaving the past in the past.
Real estate, people, and especially real estate people, sometimes just won’t make sense. You can get upset and let it ruin your day, or you can laugh about it and learn.
I am glad I laughed and in that moment I realised that even though I think that I can – actually I can’t always get an accurate read on everyone.
