60 hours of traveling time in the space of a week… That was me last week, as I headed over to South Africa for my first eXp conference (eXpCon) as a part of the organisation.
There were several elements of the trip that blew me away – today I am going to just look at how eXp in South Africa impressed me.
eXp has only been trading in SA for five years. They started over there the same time I started Independent Agent NZ…. They found the right people early, or maybe even the right people found them, and they grew fast. Very fast!
They are now ‘conservatively in the Top 3’ real estate companies in South Africa by volume, and support and license over 1200 agents.
There are 6,000 real estate companies in South Africa. In five years eXp has risen to the top 3.
The reason that this happened falls into several categories. As I said, they found the right people early on. Or vice versa.
But there were a couple of other things that I noticed.
There is an extremely positive culture. The environment was welcoming and standards were high. It was inclusive, even in a highly divided country.
They are very organised and communication is exceptional from leadership.
And the model… I think the model works and this kind of culture develops because everybody wins. This is the key element to the growth of this company in other markets as well. Not only is there a chance to earn 100% commission, but there are other revenue streams available to those who are interested in growing teams, or just introducing people to the company. The incentives to grow are high.
Seeing success like this got me thinking about and working towards making an impact here in NZ. I mean, that is why I am here.
We have just had the first person from the group that came with me from Independent Agent reach 100% commission. There are another one or two not so far away. We will be talking about this more in the next week or so.
I have gone all in that this is the model that is going to end up on top in the ‘remote work, own brand’ space because we have the best team and the best offering in this space.
An often repeated refrain is, ‘I wish I had got on board earlier’.
Right now it is earlier. There is a time right now where early adopters can set themselves up to reap out-sized long-term benefits.
