Climbing back down off my high horse

I mentioned previously that we made a family visit to the South Island to visit family and take a look around over the festive season this summer.

Driving through Motueka I noticed a beautiful old church that had been converted to… you guessed it… a real estate office. Even though I was driving in a rented people mover, I still managed to sit up a little straighter and get on my high horse about this center of community, charity and spiritual reflection which has been given over to the ‘other side’ as some jokingly call real estate.

A few days later I was back at our home base and my cousin turned up in the company of a real estate agent friend… who worked at this office…

As it happens, the church hasn’t been a church for a long time. In recent times it has been a café, but mostly it has sat derelict and run down.

I promptly climbed off my high horse and was reminded of the dangers of assumptions, that things don’t always look as they seem, and of course, housing is a basic need and we all have a part to play in that.

We have welcomed a number of people to our Independent Agent team recently, and over the next few weeks I want to introduce them to you. Because I am talking about the South Island in this message, I thought that I would start off by welcoming Les Mortimer. Les joins us from a bit further south than we ventured this summer, with his focus being on the greater Dunedin area.

He has an established business developed from a career of high standards and great results. In his own words, his track record ‘can only be achieved by referrals and repeat sales from valued and satisfied clients.’

I wish you all the best Les, and I am looking forward to working with you.
