This is the Main Event

I have had a bit of a challenging week. There is a lot going on, and as well as the usual pace of life and a bit of uptick in sales, Mum has been in hospital. I am hoping by the time you are reading this Mum, you are back at home.

When I was a kid, Mum put a message up on the fridge that was supposed to inspire me, but being a (very) moody teenager, I didn’t appreciate the sentiment. It was obviously a super important message, because it wasn’t just attached to the fridge by a magnet. It was taped to the fridge. I think it was originally written in purple felt tip, which over the years faded to blue to pink and eventually to an almost white.

Even though it sat there for years, I am at risk of misquoting. You have probably seen a version of this quote before:

Life is not a dress rehearsal, it is the real thing. This is it, this is the main event.

Back to the present, I have written on one of my office whiteboards ‘What is holding you back?’. I was thinking hard about this over the week, when the faded old message taped to the fridge came to mind.

Is it possible that somewhere deep inside I am still resisting the idea that this is the real thing? Maybe you can relate. Here are some giveaways:

If only ‘X’ was better then ‘Y’ would happen.

Once I have done ‘A’ I will be in a position to do ‘B’.

These kinds of messages are saying that ‘I am not there yet’. We can’t move into our potential until something else has been mastered.

Are we getting dressed up and made up and groomed every day just for the rehearsal, just for fake, just for practice?

Are we living in some hope that one day life will be ‘just so’ and we can start doing life for real, in front of a real audience?

Team Building!! I am super pleased to be able to announce that one of our cherished branches, East Realty, is undergoing some major expansion.

A great big welcome to Jude McIsaac and Paul Walker, both highly experienced salespeople who have decided to go boutique and work with their colleagues Trevor and Tracey East in Tauranga. I really look forward to working with you both as well as watching this space as we see what is next for East Realty.
