Real Estate – Yesterday

I was speaking with a colleague last night. She and her partner approached me at the beginning of this month with a bold vision for their business, and a tight time frame that went along with it. It sounded exciting, I was up for the challenge.

One thing I will say about real estate is that while everything needs to be done in a New York Minute, there is an awful lot that falls outside our control.

I chatted with her last night, “About your time frame….” I let the end of the sentence hang.

She said that she likes to set big goals. Goals that are hard to achieve. She doesn’t mind failing. She will get a lot closer to her goals faster if she sets them on tight time frames.

Someone who certainly manages to achieve more than most is author Tim Ferriss. One of his questions he asks himself regularly is along the lines of “How could you take that 12-month goal and make it into a 6-month goal?”

One of my challenges this year is to really look at success through the lens of achieving a lot. I am surrounded by people who achieve an enormous amount in this one shot we have at life. I think, while being kind enough on ourselves to allow us to fail as my colleague does, speeding up time frames has got to be one of the secrets.
