Shhhhhh….

We live in a really noisy world, and a very noisy industry, so I wanted to quickly jot down a few ideas around ‘silence’ that might spark some thoughts.
Creative Ideas…
Ideas will turn up in all kinds of places. One of the places they will surface is in quiet. Be it a walk, a rest, or a disconnect (leave the phone behind for even an hour or two… it will feel weird but then empowering). You might want to take a sheet of paper and a pencil (pens are no good if it rains – always a pencil) just in case those ideas start flowing.
Strategy in a deal…
Remember ‘who talks first loses’ – I can tell you a story or two about this. This is not really about winning or losing or closing though.
In the final stages of a deal sometimes clients need silence to process the information they have been getting from you, the media, the market. Letting someone sit in silence with a contract in front of them for a few minutes might be all that’s needed.
Motivation for progress…
We have heard about how small steps can add up to large growth. Adding just 1% growth on a weekly basis compounds into real progress. Let’s be honest. 1% growth can look… well… pretty boring. Great. Don’t talk about it, don’t share it, keep quiet. Build your systems, skills, pipelines in silence. This is where character and growth happen.
The results WILL come and then there will be no way you can keep them quiet because your results will speak for you, as will your clients.

I LOVE the Matariki holiday… Lots of countries have a Labour Day, a King’s Birthday, and regional anniversaries. Nowhere else will you find a holiday called Matariki. It’s not surrounded by the politics and tensions of Waitangi Day. Matariki is a midwinter New Years Day that focuses on renewal, growth and a fresh start, and I love that.
I wish you all the best for this holiday weekend.
