‘I didn’t come this far to get this far’

This came from the mouth of my 14-year-old over the weekend (who in my opinion needs to spend more time thinking about some of the advice he dishes out….). These words have been a guiding light for me this week, and the statement has gone up on my office whiteboard. 

I love the expansiveness of this statement and how it draws me in to thinking about my life as a journey, because In the day to day habits, routines, defeats and wins it is often easy to lose perspective. 

Take a moment to think about how far you have come, what you have overcome. Think about all the times you could have given up, thrown in the towel, and accepted average and safety. 

Instead, you chose to push through, live by your wits, and continue to grow and build. 

In what I do I get to hear plenty of snippets of life stories from real estate agents I work with, as do you all as you deal with buyers and sellers. Often people will recount their situations and unconsciously weave it into a story. I love the idea of putting ourselves into a story. We almost can’t help but make ourselves the hero of that story as we talk about what got us here today. It puts meaning and perspective on the high highs, the low lows, the pain, the joy and all of it in between. The journey we are each on. 

I didn’t come this far to get this far. The chapters of my story, like the chapters of yours, layer by layer build our life one after the other. There is more to come. 

We can get pretty focussed on what is immediately in front of us, head down and trudging on; however, I encourage you to think bigger. Zoom out. 

Give yourself some credit for a change! 

Dust off your goals and remember your vision for your life. 

There are very few places where you can start the week with nothing, and quickly turn it around with not much more than adjusting your mind set and making a few phone calls. You can finish the week with enough in your pipeline to keep you very well fed for the next few months or longer. If you have a real estate license you are in that place.
