Attending conferences isn’t usually my thing…

Attending conferences isn’t usually my thing – add in some overseas travel and it’s a recipe for some stress on my part. Airports, altered time zones, days away from home – not my favourite things. But last week I took a big step to challenge that. I travelled to the US for a massive real estate conference… way out of my comfort zone.

Last month, I dipped my toe in with the NZREC – my first ever real estate conference. It was small and low-key. Last week, I was in a space with maybe 6,000 people for almost a week.

I remembered Tony Robbins once said if you feel like you’re about to give up on something that you know is good for you, take massive action to prove to yourself that you can do it. That hit home for me. So I took that advice, told myself I could do it, and got on that plane.

Of course, I am happy I did. The scale and size of the opportunities in the ‘land of the free’ is simply next level.

There were so many takeaways, including:

  • From a leadership perspective, I know that I can do better.
  • I need to continue to get comfortable being uncomfortable.
  • I can dream bigger.

And I really enjoyed the travelling too… Bonus!

There’s times when you need to push past yourself, get out of your own way, and do what you think you can’t.

I think Nike summed it up well – Just Do It.
