How Times Change
I know, I know, change is everywhere. But nothing makes you realise it quite like kids do.
My son has just started high school and a tie is a part of the uniform.
I had a ‘Proud Dad’ moment helping him with his tie on the first day of school, and assumed that for the first little while, I would have some use as the ‘tie guy’.
Not so….
When I was learning to tie my tie in high school, the tie came in its packaging with written instructions that included diagrams on how to tie a Double Windsor knot. My dad never wore a tie, and so I relied on the diagrams.
However there were no instructions on this one….
On the second day of school Phoenix came downstairs, tie done, looking good.
‘Nice Tie’ I said. ‘How did you manage that?’
He had learned how to tie his tie on Tik Tok….
It got me reflecting on all the subtle changes of how things are done from one generation to the next. And at the moment, from year to year. I still prefer to read things. Most have moved on to video. Ways of learning and communicating will no doubt be on the move again soon.
This was a small reminder that one of the constants in life is change.
Being adaptable and flexible is going to make it all a lot easier.
