What I want to say, beat procrastination and healthy living

I’ll tell you what I really want, procrastination tip, and healthy living.

I want to start at the end on this one – as in I usually put this bit at the end. We are looking for experienced, motivated, independent real estate sale people who are tired of the hype, tired of being treated like employees, and want to find the passion and freedom that they went into this business looking for. We have administration and support that probably would exceed your expectations given that you get to keep a lot more commission and that we are calling on ‘Independent Agents’. I personally invite you to get in contact with me for a confidential and private conversation if this sounds like something that you would like to hear more about.

Right, now that’s over… did you notice the number of emails slamming your inbox in the weeks before Christmas. I saw all of that, and combined with my own dramas (more on that in a moment) I decided to leave the email for a month. No mailout in December….

You might have seen over the past few weeks we have had a large number of recruits join the business. This is the reason why January’s email didn’t go out. I was admin for a couple of weeks (not a good thing I assure you….) and then I took a couple of weeks out for some minimal reception down time on Great Barrier Island.

While on the topic of excuses, I have also been procrastinating on writing as well for some reason. I absolutely love writing, and so I don’t really know what the problem has been, but just this week I have been treated to the same tip twice! Here is the tip for the tasks that you don’t want to do:

Set your timer on your phone for 17 minutes.

Press Start

Do the task.

Try and beat the timer.

I did a version of this with 7-minute intervals this morning… I was in a hurry. I needed to restart the timer 3 times, but it got the job done.

There is an app called Pomodoro that does the same thing. Take a look!

__________

And lastly (maybe this should have been first, and thank you if you are still reading) I need to talk about my dramas pre-Christmas.

For some reason, Christmas sets me off in a bad way. Every year I vow it will be different and every year I fall into the same trap. There is always enormous work pressure to finish off before the 24th December. From clients, customers, and suppliers. This thing is, this year was the first time I had three admin staff, another one starting mid Jan, 15-odd agents, 2 new agents wanting to be onboarded NOW and four more for the end of January. My teenage and twenties daughters are soooo difficult to buy for, I am always worried I won’t get my wife a nice enough present, what do I get my team, do I get anything for my team? My son has expensive tastes even though he is 10…and my little girl just want a unicorn. Who have I forgotten? And to top it all off, once I have these couple of agents on board there is NOBODY in my recruiting pipeline…

The kids have been back to school for TWO WEEKS part time and now we are all going to be home together for another SIX WEEKS. How the hell will I cope?

So I was stressed. In fact, I was having heart palpitations, I was irritable, and I was very concerned that I was having some kind of vaccine-related reaction and was about to have a heart attack!

I went to the doctor. I told them I was stressed but I was also scared about a vaccine reaction. They pretty much ruled a reaction due to the time that had passed, but the good people at Silverdale Medical hooked me up to an ECG machine anyway. I was all good… and they advised that I try and start to take it easy. Just knowing that I wasn’t dying caused some of the symptoms to go promptly away.

We are in a remarkable time where the really important aspects that should be attended to in our life are being pushed aside by the concerns over Covid-19. Please, if you are in one of the age groups that should be getting a health checkup, please, do so. If you are feeling overwhelmed and stressed by the uncertainty that we are living with, share your feelings.

You are not alone.

On the topic of health, I was on the phone to one of my team the other day. The reception was terrible as he was driving through some back roads in the middle of god-knows-where, a long way from home. This agent works at one end of the country and he was somewhere in the middle of the North Island. He was driving to see an old mate that had lost a son and was really struggling. I was touched that this self-confessed ‘grumpy old bugger’ would drop everything to go and have a chat and a cuppa or a beer and get some support for a friend living so far away. Let’s be that kind of mate.

I hope you have a great month. Get a check-up if you haven’t done so. It might save your life. Worst case it will ease your mind. Help out a friend in need, seems there are plenty out there at the moment.

Six new agents to WELCOME to the team

Debbie Aldred, Donna Wyllie, and Katie Boyle, welcome! These three wonderful ladies have pooled resources and set up a ‘Real Estate Hub’ in Warkworth and from what I can see have made quite a stir. There is a real depth of experience in this group, and I am learning from them every day.

Stephanie Porowini joined in December, she is working in Whangarei and the surrounding suburbs and has some great properties on the go. Just last week Tracey Lovelock-Butler joined the team and she is also working in the Whangerei region. Both Stephanie and Tracey have extensive real estate experience and I am looking forward to seeing real growth in this next chapter in their careers.

Marisha Hes also joined in December and is off to a roaring start with bunch of sales and listings. Marisha joins the team in our most southern city so far, Palmerston North. Marisha is well known and well respected in her community and has a reputation for getting great sales results which we are seeing already.
